New trails are being cut in the Black Hills and existing trails are getting some much needed maintenance thanks to volunteers and professionals alike.  Dave Dessel from Trail Arts is back in town and hard at work improving the riding for everyone. He’s improved the connector in HLMP known as the Portage, as shown here:

After making short work of the Portage, Dave moved on to begin cutting new trail at Buzzard’s Roost. Here’s a shot of the what will become an excellent flowy trail:

The Hanson-Larsen park on M-Hill continues to grow thanks to Dave Dessel and various volunteers who’ve been working hard on a new trail on the west side of the hill. The trail is now connected from the road near the dirt jump park up to the M-West node on top of the hill near the M. Volunteers from BHMBA as well as other interested parties have been working with Dave on finishing the newly cut trail. Below are a few shots of the work:

Construction continues on the new trail system on M-Hill. The latest work is courtesy of Dave Dessel of Trail Arts. He’s currently turning a steep and rugged hillside:

Keep an eye out for more updates and pics as the trail system grows.

Travel Management Plan

For anyone involved in outdoor recreation, non-motorized or motorized, it is in your best interest to be educated regarding decisions and plans that will be implemented in the next year-that will change the NF and how it is used FOREVER.  Check out the forest service website for information, which also includes maps for each proposal.  Each proposal may be modified, but YOUR comments will be needed.  Please take the time to educate yourself, by reading the information, or better yet attending one of the informational meetings listed below (the best option).  As a Non-Profit Organization, the Black Hills Mountain Bike Association will come together to support one of the proposals.  Prior to the deadline for public comment, a comment statement will be available to print out and sign if you don’t have the time to do so yourself.  Spread the word, and thanks for your help.
